How to measure for blinds

Find the perfect fit for your dream blinds

Measuring your windows accurately is crucial when ordering blinds to ensure a perfect fit. Here’s a concise guide to help you measure your windows for blinds.

Before you begin, make sure you have the following tools handy:
• Measuring tape or a retractable measuring tool
• A notepad and pen to jot down the measurements
• A sturdy step ladder for measuring high windows

Step 1

Decide how you want your blinds to be installed; either on the inside of your window frame, or on the outside, sitting on the architrave.

Recess Fit (left)
Blinds sit inside the window frame (ensure that there is nothing obstructing where the blind is going to sit e.g. window winders, frames).

Face Fit (right)
Blinds are installed on the architrave, completely covering the window and architraves.

Step 2

Get ready to measure your windows. How you measure your windows will be determined by the kind of fit you are looking for.

Measuring for Recess Fit Measure the width at the very top of your window from one side of the inside of the window frame to the other. Measure the drop of the window from the inside of the window frame top to bottom.

Note your measurements in millimetres.

Should you choose to recess fit your blinds, keep in mind that light will show through the gaps on either side of the blind (approx. 20mm either side).

Measuring for Face Fit Measure the width at the very top of your window from one side of the architrave to the other. Measure the drop of the window from the top of the architrave to where you want your blind to finish.

Note your measurements in millimetres.

Should you choose to recess fit your blinds, keep in mind that light will show through the gaps on either side of the blind (approx. 20mm either side).

Step 3

Now you can decide on the final details of your blind finish:

– Chain side (left or right)
– Chain colour (white nylon, metal, stainless steel)
– Chain length
– Base rail finish
– Fabric to roll forward or backwards
